Biography :
Prof. Timothy Alexander Welborn AO is an eminent Australian endocrinologist, diabetes researcher, and Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Western Australia. He served as Consultant in the Department of Endocrinology and Diabetes at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital from 1970 to 2002 and continues as Emeritus Consultant. Prof. Welborn completed his PhD at the University of London in 1969, focusing on epidemiological studies of insulin and insulin resistance. He has made major contributions to diabetes epidemiology through landmark studies including the Busselton Study and the Australian Diabetes, Obesity and Lifestyle Study (AusDiab). A long-standing member and former President of the Australian Diabetes Society, he played an important role in advancing diabetes research, education, and public health initiatives across Australia. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to medicine, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO).
